Apollo Moon landing Still Standing, Photos Reveal. There are half a dozen U.S. flags on the moon, honoring the amazing
achievements of the Apollo missions. Each of the six manned Apollo missions
that landed on the moon planted flag in the lunar dirt.
It took a surprising amount of engineering thought to plant those old glories.
What would they look like today, after 42 years up there alone in very rough
conditions of 14 days of sunlight at 212F
(100C) of heat and 14 days of darkness at -238F(150C) negative degree plus bombarding,
ultraviolet light and radiation from meteors. The most experts think inlikely flags
could have endure the 42 years of exposure to vacuum and other assault of the environment.
No telescope is capable to check the 3 by 5 ft (0.91x1.52m) of flag but now,
lunar scientists say the verdict is in from latest photos of the moon taken by
NASA’s Lunar Reconnaissance Orbiter Camera (LROC): most do, in fact still
stand. LROC images it is now certain that the American flags are still standing
and casting shadows at three sites – Apollo12, Apollo 16, Apollo 17.In recent years , photos from LROC have also shown
other unprecedented details of Apollo landing sites, such views of the lunar Landers,
rovers, scientific instruments left behind on the surface, and even astronaut’s
boot print.
